Through the manipulation of the pattern and loom over the course of weaving this textile, I charted out a graph of the history of American weaving mills from the mid 1800s to today. Used as a table runner or wall hanging: ask about a custom textile mount to hang!
Bold and geometric, this reversible table runner will liven up any tabletop. This colorway features emerald green and cayenne red with hints of navy and orange. One of a kind.
This piece was woven to represent the declining number of textile mills in the US since 1900.
These table runners are woven as if walking a path. After setting up the loom, I make decisions in the moment while weaving—left here, then right, straight, diagonal. This creates a cloth with no repeat, as the constantly changing path winds over the piece. For me, weaving is a physical record of time and place, so each table runner is embedded with unique markers that can't be replicated.
