FAQ
Can I put my woven good in the washing machine?
Probably! Most items can be machine washed with like colors on delicate cycle in a delicates bag, but please refer to each item's specific care instructions to be sure. Overall, I recommend hand washing (except for hardworking tea towels—unless you love hand washing) because machine washing and drying can be very tough on textiles (it's why denim purists don't wash their jeans often or at all). Caring for our heirloom objects throughout our lives is just as important to their longevity as their material and construction quality.
How about the dryer?
Tea towels are very dryer friendly, but with items like blankets and table runners, it's best to hang them to dry. Again, please refer each item's specific care instructions to be sure.
What makes MiH's handwoven items different from mass produced ones?
Most items produced by Machine in Hand are one of kind. Though patterns and colors may be similar among like items, they're not identical unless otherwise noted. The idea that time never repeats is represented by the construction and aesthetics of these textiles. There also may be slight imperfections in the cloth, as they are woven by human hands. These are totally normal and add a bit of charm!
How long will my custom order take?
Custom orders for Tea Towels and Table Runners can take as little as 2-3 weeks and as long as 6 weeks in the busy seasons. More complex and personalized textiles, like the ceremonial cloth and shawls, take about 8-12 weeks, and require a solid conversation between us before starting.
I will send you an estimated timeline once I receive your order, but feel free to email ahead of your order if you need it by a certain time! Rush production may be available, but please reach out to machineinhand@gmail.com prior to placing your order to confirm.
Can I cancel my custom order?
Once started, custom orders—such as blankets and chuppah cloths—cannot be cancelled or returned.
Can I return my order?
Unless there is a serious defect, all sales are final. Always reach out to machineinhand@gmail.com with any questions are concerns about your orders! If you're on the fence about whether to place an order, I'm happy to answer any questions or provide additional photos.
